Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Lead Physical Engineer to head the substation physical engineering and design efforts for large scale renewable projects, guiding a three-to-five engineer/design team.

You will lead 35kV to 500kV layouts, ensure grounding, insulation, and equipment specifications, coordinate with other disciplines, and mentor junior staff while delivering compliant, high-quality documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program.
• 7-9 years of experience in substation design/engineering.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, grounding, and clearances.
• PE License required.
• Strong written and verbal communications skills.
• Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
• Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NESC, NERC and related codes.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and engineering of 35kV to 500kV substation layouts with emphasis on grounding and structural integrity.
• Develop General Arrangements, Plan/Elevation views, grounding and cable routing plans.
• Prepare calculations, BOMs and construction documentation; support design calculations.
• Mentor and supervise a small team of engineers/designers.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and external vendors; manage design reviews and approvals.
• Ensure compliance with standards, project schedules and client requirements.
• Support project management with timely delivery and quality documentation.
