Job summary

Intuit is seeking a Lead Tax Processor and SME in PTO to own and resolve the most complex tax escalations across multi-state jurisdictions. You will govern SOPs, coach staff, and drive continuous improvement while ensuring compliance and accurate tax filings.

The role is remote with flexible hours, offering overtime eligibility and a path to leadership; you will work with teams to reduce risk and improve processes through data-driven actions.

Qualifications

• 4+ years Payroll tax experience with complex tax defect resolution and multi-state filings.
• Lead, senior specialist, or SME with coaching/mentoring junior staff.
• Expert knowledge of payroll tax regulations across US jurisdictions including local taxes.
• Advanced writing skills to author SOPs and technical documents for a tax audience.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary real-time technical expert for TP1-TP3 staff; teach resolution paths to build capability.
• Author, review, and approve SOPs and KB articles across core operations.
• Conduct quarterly coaching sessions using SBIC model to close skill gaps.
• Lead or back up team huddles, group QA, and Daily Stand-Ups when M1 manager is unavailable.
• Oversee WIP, backlog aging, and staffing needs with data-driven decisions.
• Resolve severe payroll tax notices across states and IRS issues.
• Approve complex amended Federal/State returns with audit trails.
• Identify compliance risks and Known Issues; report with data-driven recommendations.
• Represent team in cross-functional meetings; uphold compliance and risk-informed alternatives.
