Job summary

Intuit is seeking a Lead Tax Processor and Subject Matter Expert to own the most complex payroll tax escalations and govern SOPs/KBs. You will coach the team, manage critical WIP and aging reports, and approve intricate amended returns across states.

This virtual role emphasizes governance, risk management, and process improvement while guiding staff development. The position requires 4+ years in payroll tax and prior SME/lead experience, with strong knowledge of US tax regs and local taxes.

Qualifications

• 4+ years payroll tax experience with complex defect resolution and multi-state filings.
• Experience as a lead, senior specialist, or SME with coaching junior staff.
• Expert knowledge of US tax regulations across jurisdictions including local taxes.
• Advanced writing skills to create and review SOPs and technical documents.
• Ownership of SLAs, red flags, and workflow improvements.
• Validation-first mindset with proactive solutions for leadership.
• 5+ years handling highly sensitive escalations independently.
• 4+ years in contact center or back-office operations.
• Comfort with leveraging AI tools to improve daily workflows.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the real-time technical expert for TP1-TP3 staff and teach resolution paths.
• Author, review, and approve SOPs and KB articles across operations.
• Conduct quarterly structured coaching sessions using SBIC model.
• Lead or support team huddles and stand-ups, backup facilitator when needed.
• Oversee WIP management, backlog reduction, and aging reports; advise staffing.
• Resolve severe payroll tax notices across state and federal levels.
• Approve complex amended Federal/State returns with audit trails.
• Identify trends and risks; report findings with data-driven responses.
• Represent team in cross-functional meetings with governance and risk mindset.
