Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Knoxville, TN, seeks a senior mechanical engineer to lead licensing basis evaluations for nuclear uprate projects and perform related thermodynamics analyses.

You will mentor junior staff, interface with clients, prepare calculations and reports, and contribute to plant optimization. The role offers a hybrid schedule with three days in the Knoxville office and two remote days.

Qualifications

• BSME from an ABET-accredited program with strong thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics focus.
• 10+ years in the nuclear power industry.
• Experience with nuclear power uprates and/or turbine retrofit projects.
• Ability to prepare calculations and reports and write clearly.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead licensing basis system and component evaluations for nuclear uprate projects.
• Perform calculations related to heat balances, power train components and plant hazards.
• Prepare task reports and equipment evaluations for client reviews.
• Lead and mentor junior engineers on nuclear plant tasks and review work.
• Attend client meetings and site walks to validate scope and ensure client satisfaction.
