Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Building Mechanical Engineer to join our Infrastructure Design team in the Northwest, focusing on HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection for water, wastewater, and institutional projects. You will design central plants, hydronic systems, and utilities, while coordinating with architects, vendors, and field staff.

The role requires a PE license or ability to obtain within one year, 5+ years of building mechanical experience, and strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive building mechanical engineering and project delivery experience.
  • Strong data analysis, problem-solving and multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Design complete HVAC systems including central plants and package units.
  • Design HVAC control systems with SCADA and building management systems integration.
  • Design plumbing systems including potable distribution, drainage, and ancillary systems.
  • Design fire protection systems using a performance-based approach.
  • Perform HVAC loads, duct/pipe sizing, lifecycle costs, and energy analyses (RESCHECK/COMCHECK).
  • Prepare plumbing calculation reports for water and drainage flows and pump sizing.
  • Prepare detailed design drawings, basis of design reports, and specs; coordinate with vendors.
  • Conduct field evaluations and develop as-builts.
  • Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with architects, engineers, and technicians.
  • Lead client meetings and manage project budgets, schedules, and interfaces with contractors.
