Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Building Mechanical Engineer to join our Infrastructure Design team in the Northwest region. You will design HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for water, wastewater, and industrial facilities, while coordinating with a multidisciplinary team.

You will lead calculations, develop drawings, and support construction with field activities. A PE license or ability to obtain one within a year, and 5+ years of experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering is required.
  • PE license or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive building mechanical engineering and project delivery experience.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Design complete HVAC systems and central plants per codes (ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, IBC, IECC).
  • Design plumbing systems including potable distribution and drainage.
  • Design fire protection systems using a performance-based approach.
  • Perform HVAC load calculations, duct/pipe sizing, lifecycle costs, and energy analyses (RESCHECK/COMCHECK).
  • Prepare detailed design drawings, calculations, and specifications; coordinate with vendors.
  • Conduct field evaluations and develop as-built drawings.
  • Manage and coordinate with architects, engineers, and technicians; mentor junior engineers.
  • Lead meetings with clients, vendors, and stakeholders; discuss design needs.
  • Manage quality, schedule, budgets, and interface with clients/contractors.
  • Support field staff during construction, including site work and RFIs.
