Job summary

Jacobs in Portland, OR is seeking a Building Mechanical Engineer to join a team delivering HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems for infrastructure projects. You will work with engineers and designers to plan, design, and optimize building mechanical systems for water and wastewater facilities and other campuses.

The role requires a B.S. in mechanical engineering, a PE license or ability to obtain one within a year, and at least five years of building mechanical experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive building mechanical engineering and project delivery experience.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Design complete HVAC systems and central plants per building codes (ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, IBC, IECC).
  • Design plumbing, fire protection, and central utility systems.
  • Perform HVAC load calculations, duct/pipe sizing, energy analyses and RESCHECK/COMCHECK.
  • Prepare detailed design drawings, specs, and basis of design reports.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers and technicians; mentor junior engineers.
  • Lead client meetings and manage project budgets and schedules.
  • Support field staff during construction and respond to submittals/RFI.
