Job summary

The Yay Company is seeking a Kitchen & Service Assistant to help keep the kitchen running, stock the café, and support the Lead Cook with prep and production. You will also label and stage items for distribution and may handle delivery to spoke schools as needed.

You’ll be the face of Yay during lunch service and grab-and-go, requiring presence with students, accuracy, and a can-do attitude in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in kitchen, café or food service with urgency and focus.
• Strong attention to labeling, staging, and portioning accuracy.
• People-first mindset with ability to interact with students.
• Reliable, self-directed work style with initiative.
• Team player who takes ownership of their station.
• Comfortable on the road if delivery is part of the role; valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Handle mise en place for the Lead Cook and keep the work surface clean.
• Label every item leaving the kitchen with name, date, quantity and use-by date.
• Pack and deliver spoke school orders when scheduled, maintaining temperature standards.
• Distribute pre-order lunches on-site or at spoke schools and ensure correct orders.
• Stock grab-and-go fridge and shelves, run checkout accurately and warmly.
• Clean as you go and participate in end-of-shift kitchen breakdown.
