Job summary

The Yay Company is seeking a Kitchen & Service Assistant to keep the kitchen running, stock the café, and support the Lead Cook during lunch service and grab-and-go. This is a hands‑on, fast‑paced role where accuracy and presence with students are essential.

Responsibilities include labeling, staging for distribution, and potentially packing for spoke schools or delivering meals. A food handler's certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days is required, plus reliable transportation.

Qualifications

• Experience in kitchen or food service with urgency and purpose.
• Strong labeling, staging, and portioning accuracy is required.
• People-facing role with students; warm, welcoming service.

Responsibilities

• Wash, chop, weigh, and portion ingredients for the Lead Cook.
• Keep the Lead Cook's station clean and surfaces ready between production runs.
• Label items leaving the kitchen with date, quantity, and use-by date.
• Stage items by school, service time, or route; notify when staging is complete.
• Pack and deliver spoke school orders; ensure correct quantities and temperatures.
• Assemble trays and manage grab-and-go stock; handle checkout and stocking.
• Clean as you go and participate in end-of-shift breakdown.
