Job summary

The Yay Company is seeking a hands-on Kitchen & Service Assistant to keep the café stocked and the kitchen running smoothly. You will support the Lead Cook with prep, label and stage items for distribution, and act as the friendly face during lunch service and grab-and-go.

Depending on market needs, you may assist with packing for spoke schools and delivering meals. This part-time role rewards reliability, accuracy, and a student-centered approach.

Qualifications

• Experience in kitchen, café, or food service environment with urgency and purpose.
• Strong attention to labeling, staging, and portioning accuracy.
• People-first mindset and ability to interact warmly with students.
• Reliable and self-directed — takes initiative to get tasks done.
• Delivery readiness with valid driver's license if applicable.
• Food handler certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Kitchen prep support: mise en place, maintain clean station, assist Lead Cook.
• Label and stage items for distribution with date, quantity, and use-by date.
• Pack and deliver to spoke schools per schedule, ensuring correct quantities and temperatures.
• Assist with lunch distribution and grab-and-go service, ensuring orders are correct and on time.
• Stock, organize, and clean grab-and-go shelves and fridges; assist with end-of-shift breakdown.
