Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a talented Inpatient Coder to join our Enterprise Revenue Cycle team in Alaska. This role focuses on inpatient documentation review, coding with ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS, and ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and federal regulations.

You will work with CDI and Quality teams to align DRGs, support audits, and communicate with clinicians on coding implications. A strong background in inpatient acute care coding and 7 years of experience is required.

Qualifications

• Advanced proficiency in ICD, CPT and HCPCS coding guidelines.
• Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
• Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and email.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organization, prioritization and reading comprehension.
• Excellent analytical skills with high attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment.

Responsibilities

• Review complex inpatient documentation to assign diagnoses and procedures.
• Ensure correct code selection using coding guidelines and regulations.
• Maintain compliance with policies and procedures.
• Code high-dollar, long-stay inpatient cases across patient types.
• Research coding topics and issues for accuracy.
• Collaborate with CDI and Quality teams to align DRGs.
• Communicate with clinicians on disease processes for coding accuracy.
• Participate in payer audits and coding-related meetings.
