Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking an Inpatient Coder to ensure accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS coding for hospital encounters based on chart documentation and regulatory guidelines. The role is non-exempt and requires adherence to AHIMA standards.

Ideal candidates will have an Associate’s degree or higher in a CAHIIM-accredited program, plus 1 year of inpatient coding experience or completion of the Coding Apprentice/Transition Program. RHIT, RHIA, or CCS certification is required.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher in a CAHIIM accredited program or additional two years of experience in lieu of degree.
• One year of inpatient coding experience or completion of Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice Program or Transition Program.
• Must have RHIT, RHIA or CCS certification.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient encounters per documentation and guidelines.
• Query physicians to clarify diagnoses/procedures as needed.
• Maintain compliance with coding standards and regulatory guidelines.
