Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking an Outpatient Coder to ensure accurate ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS and CPT coding for outpatient, ER, therapy, and clinic encounters based on documentation in the EMR. This role adheres to AHIMA guidelines and hospital policy while maintaining regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate will have an associate degree or higher in health information management, one year of outpatient coding experience or completion of the Coding Apprentice Program, and certification

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher in an AHIMA/IM accredited program or equivalent experience
• One year outpatient coding experience or completion of Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice Program
• Knowledge of coding classification systems (ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS) and CPT coding guidelines
• Familiarity with AHIMA/APC guidelines and coding compliance

Responsibilities

• Assign accurate ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS and CPT codes for outpatient encounters
• Review documentation in EMR to determine principal diagnoses and procedures
• Query physicians when needed to clarify diagnoses or procedures
• Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with hospital policies and regulatory guidelines
