Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking a non-exempt outpatient coder with a minimum of one year of coding experience or completion of the Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice Program. The role requires an Associate’s degree or higher in an AHIMA-accredited program and certifications such as RHIT/RHIA/CCS/CPC.

Proficiency in electronic encoder applications and strong communication skills are essential. The coder will ensure accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coding, participate in physician queries, and

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher in an AHIMA-accredited program or equivalent experience.
• One year of relevant outpatient coding experience or completion of the Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice Program.
• Must hold one of the AHIMA/AAPC certifications listed (e.g., RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Interacts with coding team and stakeholders to ensure accurate coding and data integrity.
• Responds to requests to code or review coded accounts for accuracy and quality.
• Initiates physician queries to obtain or clarify diagnoses and procedures as appropriate.
