Job summary

Houston Methodist is hiring an Outpatient Coder responsible for assigning accurate diagnostic and procedure codes for outpatient encounters, ER, therapy, and clinics based on documentation in the EMR. The role requires an associate degree or higher in health information management, outpatient coding experience or completion of the Coding Apprentice Program, and one of the AHIMA/AAPC credentials.

The job is non-exempt and on-site in the Houston area with standard coding duties and compliance

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in CAHIIM-accredited Health Information Management program (or equivalent experience)
• Minimum one year outpatient coding experience or completion of Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice Program
• Must have one of the AHIMA/AAPC certifications listed (RHIT/RHIA/CCS/CCA/CCS-P/CPC/CPC-H/CPC-I/CPC-A/CCC/COC)

Responsibilities

• Assign accurate ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS and CPT codes and APCs per hospital policy and guidelines
• Query physicians to obtain or clarify diagnoses/procedures using the physician query process
• Maintain coding quality and compliance with AHIMA guidelines
• Collaborate with coding team and stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate abstracts
• Support Accounts Receivables objectives by coding and abstracting within productivity standards
