Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking an Inpatient Coder to ensure accurate assignment of ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient encounters based on documentation in the electronic medical record, while adhering to coding guidelines and regulatory requirements.

This non-exempt role requires an associate degree or higher in a CAHIIM-accredited program (or equivalent experience), one year of inpatient coding experience or completion of our coding apprentice program, and AHIMA credentials such as RHIT, RHIA, or

Responsibilities

• Code inpatient encounters accurately using ICD-10-CM/PCS within the electronic medical record and coding software.
• Interact with coding team and stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate coding.
• Initiate physician queries to clarify diagnoses/procedures per established query process.
• Adhere to AHIMA standards and hospital policy for coding accuracy and compliance.

Education

CAHIIM-accredited coding program

Experience in lieu of degree (2 years)

Medical terminology knowledge

English communication skills
