Job summary

Houston Methodist seeks an Inpatient Coder to assign accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes to inpatient encounters based on documentation in the EMR, adhering to guidelines.

The ideal candidate holds an RHIT/RHIA/CCS credential (AHIMA) or an equivalent, with at least one year of inpatient coding experience, and an associate degree or higher. Proficiency with encoder and EPIC/EHR systems is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher in a CAHIIM accredited program or additional two years of experience.
• One year inpatient coding experience or completion of Apprenticeship/Transition program.
• Licenses: RHIT, RHIA, or CCS AHIMA.

Responsibilities

• Code and abstract inpatient encounters using ICD-10-CM/PCS.
• Query physicians to clarify diagnoses/procedures in the physician query process.
• Maintain coding quality and productivity standards per policy and AHIMA guidelines.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and participate in coding education sessions.
