Job summary

CBRE Global Workplace Solutions is seeking an Automation Engineer to support advanced automation systems in one of the world’s largest online retailers. You’ll apply your controls and automation knowledge to optimize maintenance, diagnose issues, and enhance conveyors, PLCs, SCADA, and vision systems.

The role emphasizes safety, problem solving, and cross-functional collaboration with site teams, operations, and maintenance to improve uptime and reliability across mission-critical facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 2–5 years of relevant experience in automation/controls.
• 2+ years with PLC programming, robotics components, and SCADA systems.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights/weekends/holidays.
• Ability to solve problems independently with minimal supervision.
• Physical capability to lift 50 lbs and perform required tasks.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe operation by complying with codes, regulations, and company directives.
• Troubleshoot and modify software for material handling control systems (PLC/PC, Allen-Bradley Controllogix/CompactLogix, RSLogix 5000).
• Serve as first-level escalation for on-site and remote troubleshooting.
• Inspect systems to verify operation aligns with design specs and client requirements.
• Oversee development scope, work requests, and inspection with outside contractors.
• Engineer process improvements from concept to implementation.
• Monitor industrial networks and equipment performance metrics.
• Communicate with leadership, operations, and maintenance on timelines and impacts.
• Analyze failures to propose improvements and retraining as needed.
