Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students across elementary, middle, and/or high schools to support academic success, attendance, and positive behavior. Training of 2–4 weeks is provided at the start of the year, with ongoing support from partner teachers and school staff.

Responsibilities include 1:1 and small-group tutoring, coordinating literacy and math activities, and collaborating to monitor progress using City Year’s data system.

Qualifications

• Be a US citizen or legal permanent resident (DACA status not eligible).
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Have served no more than three AmeriCorps terms.
• Agree to and complete a background check.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (location varies).

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students to earn academic success and improve attendance.
• Plan and monitor individual student progress; work with teachers on instruction.
• Support extended day and after-school programming including enrichment and clubs.
• Create a safe, engaging classroom space in collaboration with teachers.
