Job summary

AbbVie Inc. is seeking a senior professional to lead Publications Teams for assigned assets, steering execution of publication plans across manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentations. You will ensure alignment with strategic plans and manage internal and external writers and vendors.

The role demands effective leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and a deep understanding of medical data and regulatory standards. A strong publication track record in pharma is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degrees preferred (PhD/PharmD/MPH or equivalent)
• 4-5 years of medical/scientific publications experience in pharma or medical communications
• Demonstrated leadership abilities and staff management experience
• Ability to understand and interpret medical data and statistics concepts
• Knowledge of clinical/scientific publication structure, content, and regulatory guidelines
• Excellent written and verbal communication with experience presenting to senior audiences
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet navigation

Responsibilities

• Serve as leader of cross-functional Publications Team(s) for assigned assets, directing meetings and driving publication plan execution
• Lead tactical execution of publication plans (clinical manuscripts, abstracts, posters, oral presentations) within timelines and budgets
• Review publications in assigned therapeutic area for quality and alignment with platforms and strategies
• Partner with Scientific Communications Director to align publication strategy with plans and ensure pull-through to tactics
• Collaborate with Publications Director to project and manage outsourcing and internal resource needs
• Provide guidance to internal and external medical writers ensuring high-quality work
• Direct external vendors to complete publication projects on schedule and within quality standards
• Oversee performance assessments, training, feedback, and talent retention for staff
• Address and resolve publications-related issues and maintain accurate records and resources
