Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• 1 year hospital/physician coding experience.
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms.
• Strong data entry skills.
• Understanding of computer applications.
• Ability to work with health care team.
• Certifications: RHIT, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, COC, CPC-A.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to determine appropriate ICD-10 CM/CPT codes.
• Abstracts data elements for statistical requests and enters coded data into the designated system.
• Ensures efficient management of medical information and cash flow related to unbilled coding reports.
• Keeps informed of changes in ICD-10 CM/CPT guidelines and implements updates.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
