Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks a Medical Coder to review medical records, assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, and ensure accurate data for billing and reporting. The role supports cash flow through timely submissions and accurate coding.

Responsibilities include data abstraction, staying current with coding guidelines, and collaborating with health care teams to ensure accuracy and compliance, HIPAA training is expected.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• Successful completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• 1 year of Hospital and/or Physician Coding.
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms.
• Strong data entry skills.
• An understanding of computer applications.
• Ability to work with members of the health care team.
• Credential options include RHIT, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, COC, CPC-A.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to assign ICD-10-CM/CPT codes.
• Abstracts data elements for statistical requests and enters information into the designated system.
• Manages unbilled coding reports to support cash flow.
• Keeps updated with ICD-10-CM/CPT guidelines by training and resources.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
