Job summary

HDR is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Hydropower program and lead geotechnical analysis and design for large-dam and power infrastructure projects across the Southeast. You will coordinate field investigations, lab testing, and reporting, contributing to reliable, sustainable hydro developments.

The role offers opportunities to serve as a project manager on mid-size initiatives, collaborate with HDR's Hydropower Practice, and support marketing efforts while traveling regionally.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical/Geological Engineering or related field.
  • PE license recognized by the licensing board for the position location (NC preferred).
  • 5+ years in geotechnical engineering with dam and field experience.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation or GIS.
  • Familiar with GeoStudio/Ensoft and Bentley geotechnical tools.
  • Ability to plan and document subsurface explorations and tests.

Responsibilities

  • Lead geotechnical analysis, design and construction documents for large dams and power infrastructure.
  • Drive project workflows, planning, field investigations and lab testing programs.
  • Prepare geotechnical analyses, design calculations and reports.
  • Review dam safety instrumentation data and FE modeling for dam projects.
  • Prepare design drawings and construction specifications; participate in inspections.
  • Support marketing efforts and act as Project Manager on mid-size initiatives.
