Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in the United States is seeking a senior Mechanical Engineer to lead licensing basis studies for nuclear uprates. You will apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics to major plant systems, develop evaluations, and prepare reports and cost estimates.

This hybrid role requires a BSME from an ABET-accredited program and 10+ years in nuclear power, with strong written communication. Mentorship of junior staff and client interaction are core aspects.

Qualifications

• Requires a BSME from ABET-accredited program with strong background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
• 10+ years of experience in the nuclear power industry.
• Experience with nuclear power uprates and/or turbine retrofit projects.
• Knowledge of balance of plant systems, heat balance, pumps, heat exchangers, and cooling systems.
• Excellent technical report writing and ability to prepare calculations and reports.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; proficient with MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead licensing basis system and component evaluations for nuclear uprate projects.
• Prepare calculations related to heat balance, pumps, exchangers, and plant hazards to support recommendations.
• Lead and mentor junior engineering staff on nuclear power plant tasks.
• Interface with clients and project teams to present technical discussions and status.
• Develop engineering proposals and cost estimates.
• Perform independent reviews of work including calculations and drawings.
• Attend client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope and ensure client satisfaction.
