Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a senior level mechanical/ nuclear power engineer in a role that blends design, analysis, and client interaction. The position is hybrid, requiring in-office work three days per week, with responsibilities spanning uprate studies, calculations, and vendor reviews.

Ideal candidates hold a BSME from ABET-accredited programs, 12+ years in nuclear power, and familiarity with uprates, licensing, and safety standards.

Qualifications

• This position requires a BSME from ABET-accredited program with a strong background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
• 12+ years of experience in the nuclear power industry.
• Experience with nuclear power uprates and/or turbine retrofit projects.
• All assignments require preparation of calculations and reports and excellent technical report writing.
• Knowledge of practical application of mechanical engineering and technology to project design.
• Strong interest in numerical computations and problem solving.
• Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations for nuclear power plants.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in Power Uprates and related areas mentioned in the job description.

Responsibilities

• Perform consulting level work for power uprates in the nuclear industry.
• Interface with clients and project teams to present technical discussions and project status.
• Develop engineering proposals and cost estimates.
• Manage resources and develop estimates for task completion and budget development.
• Review calculations related to heat balances, power train components, heat exchangers, and plant hazards.
• Review task reports and equipment evaluations to meet client requirements.
• Review equipment sizing and selection to support power uprate proposals.
• Evaluate vendor bids from a technical perspective.
• Interface with vendors for document reviews and equipment compliance.
• Lead and mentor junior engineering staff on power plant engineering tasks.
• Perform independent reviews of work including calculations and drawings.
• Attend client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope and client satisfaction.
