Sargent & Lundy's Nuclear Power Group in Chicago seeks a senior Mechanical Engineer to lead licensing basis evaluations and power uprate analyses for nuclear plants. You will apply thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics to major systems, mentor junior staff, and interface with clients to present findings.

Qualifications

• This position requires a BSME from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program with a strong academic background and interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
• 12+ years of experience in the nuclear power industry.
• Experience with nuclear power uprates and/or turbine retrofit projects.
• Experience in balance of plant systems, heat balance, power train pumps, heat exchangers, condenser/heat sink, and related areas.
• Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
• Knowledge of codes, standards and regulations for mechanical design of nuclear power plants.
• MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead licensing basis system and component evaluations for nuclear power uprate projects.
• Apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics to power plant engineering.
• Perform consulting level work for power uprates in the nuclear industry.
• Prepare calculations related to heat balances, pumps, heat exchangers, and plant hazards.
• Prepare task reports and equipment evaluations to meet client requirements.
• Lead and mentor junior engineering staff on nuclear power tasks.
• Attend client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope and expectations.
