Job summary

Sargent & Lundy, a leading engineering firm, seeks a lead-level Mechanical Engineer for a nuclear-focused project team in the Chicago area. This role offers a hybrid work arrangement and opportunities for career advancement on a multi-disciplinary design effort.

Responsibilities include leading design for piping, pressure vessels, HVAC and radioactive material handling, preparing calculations, equipment specs, and interfacing with customers and vendors.

Qualifications

• Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance.
• BSME or MSME degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program with strong thermodynamics/heat transfer experience.
• 10+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, ideally in a nuclear environment.
• Experience with piping, pressure vessels, HVAC, and/or radioactive material handling systems.
• Working knowledge of ASME codes and related standards.
• Experience with finite element or advanced engineering software.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design engineering on a multi-disciplined project team.
• Prepare and review complex calculations and mechanical designs.
• Prepare documented design input for drawings and equipment specifications.
• Interface with vendors and customers, and prepare reports/studies.
• Develop project budgets, schedules, and work plans; ensure on-time delivery.
• Mentor junior engineers and review technical work.
• Lead design for piping, pressure vessels, HVAC, and handling systems.
• Communicate clearly and write effectively for technical specifications.
• Support safety, regulatory, and quality standards compliance.
