Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a lead Mechanical Engineer for a hybrid role in Warrenville, IL. The position covers design and analysis of complex equipment, pressure vessels, and interfacing systems with opportunities for career advancement.

Ideal candidates have 12+ years in mechanical engineering, ABET-accredited degree, and ability to obtain US government security clearance. Strong expertise in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and machine design is required.

Qualifications

• Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance
• ABET-accredited program with strong background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, machine design, or thermal systems
• 12+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience
• Experience with piping, pressure vessels, HVAC, and/or radioactive material handling systems
• Familiarity with ASME B31, ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, ASME AG-1
• Experience with FEA or advanced software (e.g., ANSYS)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

• Lead Mechanical design engineering efforts on a multi-disciplinary project design team
• Monitor the work of assigned staff on technical matters and manage tasks within schedule and budget
• Prepare and review complex calculations and mechanical systems designs
• Prepare design input for drawings (P&IDs, layouts, general arrangements) and equipment specifications
• Communicate with vendors via detailed specifications
• Prepare and review reports and studies
• Develop project budgets, schedules, and work plans; monitor progress
• Interface with customers in project meetings
• Mentor junior engineers
