Job summary

Baystate Health in Palmer, MA is seeking a unit clerk to support patient flow, manage records, and coordinate communication among clinical teams. The role reports to the Nurse Manager and works with charge nurses to ensure smooth unit operations and timely admissions and discharges.

Responsibilities include bed management, charting in OA Gold and BMD, handling calls and messages, assisting Hospitalists, and maintaining supply inventories.

Qualifications

• Previous clerical and customer service experience
• Healthcare clerical experience preferred
• CPR/BLS certification may be required

Responsibilities

• Bed management and patient throughput coordination.
• Use OA Gold, CIS, Premise, BMD and other systems daily.
• Participate in unit projects and staffing schedules.
• Relay messages and coordinate with departments for tests.
• Assist Hospitalist during rounds and arrange notifications.
• Maintain and file patient records and discharge/ transfer paperwork.
• Greet patients and families and orient them to the unit.
• Inventory and restock supplies for the unit.
• Know emergency procedures and equipment locations.
• Monitor cardiac monitors and report irregularities.
• Demonstrate one-to-one patient observation competency.
• Take required dysrhythmia course within 6 weeks of hire.
