Job summary

Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, Inc. (HIMSS) seeks a senior accounting leader to manage the organization’s accounting operations and deliver timely financial close.

You will establish policies, controls, and efficient processes, while coordinating external audits and tax filings for HIMSS and related entities. In this role, you will oversee AR/AP, currency translation, and international operations, driving system enhancements with NetSuite, Concur, and ADP.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting; MS or MBA preferred.
• CPA preferred.
• A minimum of 10 years (full-time) experience in industry or public accounting, including managing remote teams and international operations.
• Exceptional accounting and analytical skills; deadline-focused; professional ethics.
• Proven ability to mentor and develop accounting professionals.

Responsibilities

• Direct the Accounting Dept activities for monthly, quarterly, and annual close, delivering reconciled information for internal and external statements.
• Develop and enforce financial policies to safeguard assets.
• Oversee AR aging components, including billings, cash receipts, and merchant accounting.
• Oversee disbursements: AP, POs, petty cash, expenses, payroll tax compliance, with Assistant Controller oversight.
• Ensure accounting activities of HIMSS international offices meet policy and GAAP/currency translation requirements.
• Maintain systems and controls to verify financial data integrity.
• Lead system enhancements and implementations with NetSuite, Concur, ADP; manage project plans and adoption.
• Coordinate timely audit work papers and reconciliations with external auditors.
• Provide leadership on accounting policies and GAAP to CFO/CEO and exec team.
• Improve quality and transparency of accounting records and schedules underlying financial reporting.
• Direct fixed asset reporting and inventory processes.
• Mentor, coach and develop staff; conduct performance reviews.
• Perform other duties as required to support department and strategic goals.
