Job summary

Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, Inc. (HIMSS) seeks a senior accounting leader to oversee accounting operations and the financial close, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and GAAP compliance. You will establish policies, manage audits, and supervise the team across global entities.

You will guide internal controls, system enhancements (NetSuite, Concur, ADP), and collaborate with executive leadership on financial reporting and strategy to support HIMSS’s mission and growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting; MS or MBA preferred.
• CPA preferred.
• Ten (10) years of experience in industry or public accounting, including remote teams and international operations.
• Exceptional accounting and analytical skills; deadline-focused; high ethics.
• Proven ability to mentor and develop accounting professionals.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills; able to create initiatives and manage outcomes.
• Experience using technology to meet financial close goals; NetSuite experience preferred.
• Ability to communicate with colleagues, management, clients and others professionally.

Responsibilities

• Direct the Accounting Department for monthly, quarterly, and annual closes and deliver reconciled information for financial statements.
• Develop and enforce financial policies to safeguard assets.
• Oversee accounts receivable aging, billing, cash receipts, and merchant accounting.
• Oversee disbursements: accounts payable, POs, petty cash, payroll, tax compliance.
• Manage accounting activities of HIMSS international offices with GAAP currency translation and VAT.
• Maintain systems and controls ensuring data integrity.
• Lead financial system improvements with NetSuite, Concur, and ADP.
• Plan audit work papers and reconciliations; provide QA of interim financials.
• Advise CFO/CEO on accounting policies and GAAP applications.
• Improve quality and transparency of accounting records and schedules.
• Direct fixed asset reporting and inventory processes.
• Mentor and develop employees with performance feedback.
• Perform other duties to support department objectives.
