Job summary

Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, Inc. (HIMSS) seeks an experienced accounting leader to manage the organization’s close, policy development, and internal controls.

You will oversee AR/AP, payroll, audits, currency translation and tax compliance across HIMSS entities, while mentoring staff and driving system improvements. The role reports to the CFO/CEO, provides strategic input on financial reporting, and ensures timely, accurate disclosures in accordance with GAAP.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA preferred is desirable.
• MS or MBA preferred; professional ethics expected.
• Minimum ten years of experience in industry or public accounting.
• Experience mentoring accounting professionals and managing remote teams.
• Strong leadership and communication skills; GAAP knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Direct the Accounting Department for timely close and financial statements.
• Develop and enforce policies to safeguard assets and ensure controls.
• Oversee AR aging, billings, cash receipts, and merchant accounting with oversight.
• Oversee disbursements including AP, payroll, and tax compliance.
• Ensure GAAP compliance for currency translation and foreign tax liability.
• Maintain systems and data integrity; lead system enhancements (NetSuite/Concur/ADP).
• Plan and direct audits, provide quality assurance of reconciliations.
• Advise CFO/CEO on accounting policies and reporting; GAAP application.
• Improve accounting records and supporting schedules for disclosures.
• Direct fixed asset reporting and inventory processes; mentor staff.
