Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students to help them achieve academic success and improve attendance. You will support teachers, plan activities, and contribute to in-school and after-school initiatives in a supportive training environment.

Training is provided at the year’s start; the role emphasizes teamwork with teachers and school staff to create a positive learning space for students.

Qualifications

• Experience in coaching and mentoring students is beneficial.
• Ability to plan and monitor student progress with teachers.
• Willingness to participate in training and work with various school staff.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor elementary, middle and/or high school students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and/or math activities matched to student level.
• Create and implement behavior management strategies for students.
• Support teachers with in-class instruction and student progress reviews.
• Contribute to extended day and virtual programming for student engagement.
• Assist with events recognizing student growth in math, literacy, attendance and behavior.
