Job summary

MyMichigan Health is seeking a Patient Service Assistant to provide clerical, receptionist, and front-office support in the practice. You will greet patients, verify insurance, register demographics, schedule appointments, collect payments, and coordinate with clinical teams.

The ideal candidate has a High School Diploma and preferably an Associate degree, with strong customer service, HIPAA knowledge, and proficiency in EMR systems.

Qualifications

• Reading, writing, mathematical and computer skills.
• Keyboarding skills to register patients and handle office tasks.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and standard office policies.
• Typically two years of experience in a medical office or similar setting.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and answer phones to manage the practice flow.
• Register patients and verify/update demographic and insurance information.
• Schedule appointments and tests; process referrals and authorizations as needed.
• Collect copays, post payments, and balance cash drawer daily.
• Explain policies, HIPAA rules, and patient portal registration.
• Maintain patient records and coordinate with front office, clinical staff, and providers.
• Train new staff on the Patient Service Assistant role.
