Job summary

Western States Equipment Company is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Technician to diagnose, repair, and test CAT-powered machinery in field and shop settings. You will interpret test results, determine repair scope, and ensure timely, safe service on customer sites and in our shop.

Responsibilities include completing reports, coordinating parts, and communicating status to customers. Travel and overtime may be required; join a safety‑driven team with a strong commitment to customer care.

Qualifications

• Proof of high school diploma or GED.
• Associates Degree or technical training preferred.
• Five years experience diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment.
• Knowledge of scrapers, crawler tractors, loaders, excavators.
• Caterpillar experience preferred.
• Must own required tools.
• Must have a current CDL with air brake experience and acceptable driving record.
• Must communicate in English.

Responsibilities

• Conducts machine performance tests and interprets results to determine repair scope.
• Diagnoses and repairs heavy equipment in field or shop, adhering to TRG standards.
• Escalates unresolved issues to Technical Communicators for further research.
• Adapts knowledge of Caterpillar systems to troubleshoot new models.
• Completes service reports and time entries daily and submits them.
• Communicates issues, plans, and status to customers during repairs.
• Orders parts and evaluates reuse to fix failures.
• Adheres to safety policies while on job site.
