Job summary

Western States Equipment Company is seeking a field/service technician to diagnose and repair heavy equipment, including Caterpillar machines, across field or shop settings. The role requires experience with diagnostics, parts ordering, and customer communication.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, a CDL with air brakes, and at least five years of relevant experience. Willingness to travel and work overtime is expected, with safety and DOT compliance emphasized.

Qualifications

• Proof of high school diploma or GED.
• Associates degree or technical training preferred.
• Five years experience in diagnosis and repair of heavy equipment (Caterpillar experience preferred).
• Prior experience in troubleshooting methods and systems required.
• Must own required tools.
• CDL with air brake and acceptable driving record; DOT compliant.
• Must be able to communicate in English.

Responsibilities

• Conducts machine performance and diagnostic tests and interprets results to decide repair extent.
• Uses troubleshooting methods to repair and diagnose machine and attachment failures.
• Adapts knowledge of Caterpillar systems to troubleshoot and repair new equipment models.
• Works in field, shop, or at customer locations; overtime/overnight may be required.
• Repairs machines without error and within time guidelines; documents service reports and time entries.
• Communicates issues and repair status to customers during repairs.
• Adheres to safety policies and customer requirements.
• Orders parts and evaluates reusability and failure causes.
