Job summary

Nationwide is seeking a Field Claims Specialist II for the National Catastrophe (NATCAT) team. This field-based role covers major disasters nationwide, including hurricanes, floods, and wildfires, with up to 80% travel.

You will inspect properties, assess damage, determine coverage, and guide policyholders through the claims process with empathy and clarity. Responsibilities include on-site inspections, complex claim resolution, reserves management, and collaboration with internal teams.

Qualifications

• Education: Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.
• License/Certification/Designation: State licensing where required. Complete claims certification programs. Obtain Xactimate Level 1 within 1 year; Level 2 within 2 years.
• Experience: 3–5 years of related property claims experience or equivalent.
• Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: General knowledge of insurance, property estimating, and claims processes; strong communication and problem-solving.
• Must be able to safely access rooftops and perform field inspections.

Responsibilities

• Handle claims promptly with minimal direction and oversight.
• Determine policy coverages and apply claims practices per guidelines.
• Open/close/adjust reserves to ensure adequacy.
• Maintain knowledge of industry repair procedures and market pricing.
• Collaborate with Special Investigations Unit and Subrogation to identify fraud.
• Lead follow-ups using claims systems and deliver superior customer service.
