Job summary

BD is seeking a Field Based Medical Science Liaison (MSL) focused on plastic and reconstructive surgery for the United States. The role calls for deep expertise in medical affairs, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory understanding, with travel of 60-80% to support surgeons and KOLs across the territory.

The position requires an advanced clinical degree and 3–5 years in field-based MSL work or plastic surgery, with demonstrated cross-functional collaboration and strong presentation skills.

Qualifications

• Advanced scientific or clinical degree preferred (MD, DO, PhD, PharmD, NP, PA, RN).
• 3–5 years field-based MSL experience and/or clinical plastic surgery work experience.
• Plastic and reconstructive surgery experience is a must — industry or clinical background.
• Strong expertise in medical affairs, KOL engagement, and clinical/regulatory landscape for surgical innovation.
• Demonstrated cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders.
• Ability to analyze stakeholder networks and tailor communications.
• Excellent presentation, relationship-building and organizational skills.
• Ability to interpret complicated clinical and pre-clinical data.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Knowledge of the US healthcare system and regulations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of clinical trial design and process.
• Understanding of US healthcare decision making.
• Ability to develop trust with BD peers.
• Experience with OR/surgical suite environment and credentialing/OR certification preferred.
• Travel: 60-80% travel.

Responsibilities

• Align on medical strategy and objectives with cross-functional partners.
• Identify and map stakeholders including KOLs, surgeons, HCPs, payers, and patient groups.
• Gather and analyze stakeholder data to prioritize engagement.
• Develop engagement plans for plastics and reconstructive surgery audiences.
• Design coordinated objectives with defined scientific/educational outcomes.
• Deploy planned and reactive engagement strategies (advisory boards, sessions).
• Engage via in-person/virtual KOL meetings, research, events, and digital platforms.
• Document insights and refine medical strategy with leadership.
• Maintain compliance and separation between scientific engagement and promotion.
• Track engagement against benchmarks and adapt tactics for value.
• Build long-term relationships as scientific expert in plastics surgery.
• Stay current on therapeutic area and main study level in plastics.
