Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners on diverse sites, capture data, and deliver scan-to-CAD files the client can act on. You will verify on-site capture, process data in Artec Studio, and generate meshes, reports, and coordinate deltas for review.

You'll work with CAD tools and read fabrication drawings, travel to regional hubs, and grow toward lead technician or project management as the service line expands.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld scanner on real projects, with examples.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software; mesh cleanup, registration, export.
• Familiarity with CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion, Inventor, Revit) and ability to read drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites and industrial plants; able to carry equipment, climb, and work outdoors.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable record.
• Able to travel and fly with equipment as assigned.
• Experience with scan-to-CAD, Geomagic Design X, or metrology reporting a plus.
• ACI, NICET, or ICC certifications a plus — we sponsor them.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement and other structures.
• Control drift on large objects using reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export formats.
• Produce deviation maps, reports, crack maps, and coordinate reports against drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks; hand-clean meshes as needed.
• Document capture procedures, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Keep scanner, batteries, and calibration records organized.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
