Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a skilled 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners (Artec Leo and similar) on concrete and structural projects. You will capture data on site, verify coverage, process in Artec Studio, and deliver meshes, point clouds, and scan-to-CAD files ready for client use.

The role requires on-site work, travel to regional hubs, and the ability to climb and work in industrial environments.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating handheld structured-light or laser scanners (Artec Leo, Eva, Space Spider; or equivalent).
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software; mesh cleanup, registration, export.
• Familiarity with CAD and reading structural/fabrication drawings (SolidWorks, Fusion, Inventor, Revit).
• Comfortable on active construction sites and in industrial plants; able to carry equipment, climb, and work outdoors.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable record; able to travel with equipment.
• Willingness to travel to regional hubs and sites as assigned.
• Experience with scan-to-CAD, Geomagic Design X, or metrology reporting is a plus.
• Certifications such as ACI, NICET, or ICC are a plus (company sponsors).

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar, embeds, and structures before concrete pours.
• Control drift on large objects using reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, export to STL/OBJ/E57/CAD formats.
• Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, and anchor bolt reports.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Maintain scanner, batteries, and calibration records; coordinate access and safety on sites.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
