Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a 3D Scanning Technician to operate handheld scanners (Artec Leo, Eva, or Space Spider) on diverse field projects. You will capture data on site, verify coverage, process scans in Artec Studio, and deliver meshes, point clouds, and scan-to-CAD files for review.

You will need to read structural drawings, create CAD-ready outputs, and maintain safety on active job sites. Travel to regional hubs and sites along the Gulf Coast may be required.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating handheld structured-light or laser scanners on real projects (Artec Leo, Eva, Space Spider, or equivalent).
• Experience with Artec Studio or similar scan-processing software for mesh cleanup and registration.
• Ability to read CAD drawings and understand structural/fabrication drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites and in industrial plants; able to carry equipment.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable record and willingness to travel.
• Experience with scan-to-CAD or metrology reporting is a plus; certifications such as ACI, NICET, or ICC are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement.
• Control drift on large objects using reference features and overlap.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export.
• Produce deviation color maps, reports, crack maps, and anchor bolt reports.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Keep scanner, batteries, and calibration records organized.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
