Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners (Artec Leo, Eva, Space Spider) and process data into deliverables for clients. You will scan rebar mats, embeds, corroded pipes, and other structures before pours, then verify data on site and in Artec Studio.

You’ll produce meshes, reports, and scan-to-CAD outputs used by engineers and inspectors. You will travel to regional hubs as needed, handle jobsite access, and maintain calibration records.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld structured-light or laser scanner on real projects.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software; mesh cleanup, registration, and export.
• Familiarity with CAD drawings (SolidWorks, Fusion, Inventor, Rev it) and reading structural drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites and industrial plants; able to carry equipment, climb, and work outdoors.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable record; able to travel and fly with equipment.
• Experience with scan-to-CAD, Geomagic Design X, or metrology reporting is a plus; certifications a plus—we sponsor them.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement and other structures.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL, OBJ, E57, and CAD formats.
• Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, and anchor bolt coordinate reports.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) or hand-clean meshes for modeling.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Keep scanner, batteries, and calibration records organized.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
• Pay, schedule, and travel logistics to be managed; regional hubs staff projects; some weeks on the road.
