Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a trained 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners (Artec Leo, Eva, Space Spider) and process data in Artec Studio. You will deliver scan-to-CAD files and reports for rebar, embeds, pipes, and structural components, on site and across plants.

Responsibilities include planning scans, ensuring data completeness, and producing CAD-ready outputs. Travel to regional hubs and safety compliance are required.

Qualifications

• Experience operating handheld structured-light or laser scanners on real projects with demonstrable work examples.
• Proficiency in Artec Studio for mesh processing, registration, and export.
• Reading CAD drawings and familiarity with structural fabrication drawings.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement, failed and damaged structures, corroded pipe and tanks, fabricated steel and precast, machine parts, and modular units.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features, tape-measure backbones, and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL, OBJ, E57, and CAD formats.
• Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, pit-depth tables, and anchor bolt coordinate reports against drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks, or hand clean meshes to the modeling team.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Keep the scanner, batteries, and calibration records in order.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
