Job summary

SMX is seeking an experienced federal financial reporting specialist to advise on design, construction, and validation of a next‑generation FM QSMO‑aligned financial statement and reconciliation solution. You will work with accountants, analysts, architects, and developers to build and enhance the solution.

The role supports 100% remote work on a contractor basis, with responsibilities spanning data modeling, crosswalk validation, and disclosure design, while ensuring compliance with OMB, FASAB,

Qualifications

• 7+ years of federal financial management experience, ideally including time at a federal agency or federal consulting practice.
• Experience in federal financial statement preparation and/or auditing of statements.
• Familiarity with USSM framework, Modernization Playbook, FIBF, GovOps Marketplace, and QSMO.
• Hands-on GTAS experience: trial balance submission, GTAS edits/validations.
• Knowledge of TFM Volume 2 Chapter 4700 and USSGL guidance, GTAS edits and posting logic.
• Strong knowledge of OMB Circulars A-123, A-136, and A-11.
• Solid understanding of FASAB publications and footnote disclosures.
• Familiarity with FISCAM.
• Excellent organizational & presentation skills.
• Proficient with Excel & PowerPoint.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; additional experience may count in lieu of degree.

Responsibilities

• Advise on design/construction of data model, dimensions, and hierarchies for federal financial statements.
• Validate USSGL crosswalks and mapping to line items.
• Ensure statements conform to OMB A-136 and FASAB disclosures.
• Design and validate footnotes and disclosures.
• Validate reconciliation tools and GTAS-related logic.
• Align solution with FM QSMO standards and federal requirements.
• Explain functionality with mockups and flow diagrams.
• Explain federal reporting processes to non-government staff.
• Conduct business process analysis and prioritize roadmap needs.
• Gather requirements and support design, testing, and validation.
