Job summary

AEG is seeking an Optician to provide expert eyewear solutions and exceptional patient care. You will assist patients in selecting frames and lenses, ensure proper fit and measurements, and deliver outstanding service.

Responsibilities include interpreting prescriptions, entering data into the EHR, educating patients on care and insurance, and maintaining quality in a fast-paced practice. On-site, full-time role with strong customer-facing duties.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• ABO/NCLE preferred but not required.
• Minimum 1 year experience as an Optician preferred.
• HIPAA requirements preferred.
• PC skills including MS Office, Windows, and word processing.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Excellent customer service and sales experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Delivers an extraordinary experience to each patient and explains customized product/service recommendations.
• Receive patient handoffs from technicians or doctors and assess visual needs through lifestyle questions.
• Stay updated on company/industry products, rebates, lenses and frames.
• Handle patient calls, update order status, and resolve issues; escalate to management when needed.
• Assist patients in selecting frames, lens types, and treatments based on prescriptions and lifestyle.
• Educate patients on eyeglass and contact lens care, warranties, and coverage options.
• Understand medical and vision insurance plans, eligibility, copays, deductibles, and authorizations.
• Interpret prescriptions written by Optometrists and Ophthalmologists and enter data into the EHR/ALE system.
• Follow up on pending orders and notify patients when eyewear is ready or delayed.
• Dispense glasses, ensure proper fit, adjust as needed, and seek feedback.
• Adjust eyewear for visual acuity and comfort using appropriate tools.
• Proficient with tools such as pupilometers, PD sticks, lensometers, pliers, and wrenches.
• Communicate with technicians and managers about orders and status.
• Inspect final product for flaws and ensure cleanliness of lenses.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of frame boards and work area.
• Answer patient questions about insurance, warranties, pricing, and promotions.
