Job summary

American Vision Partners (AVP) is seeking a Specialty Surgery Counselor to guide patients through the surgical process in a fast-paced eye-care setting. You’ll review surgery paperwork, schedule pre- and post-operative appointments and ensure consent and patient understanding.

You’ll coordinate with surgeons, manage schedules to maximize daily capacity, follow up on cancellations, collect out-of-pocket payments, and prepare surgical charts while maintaining patient confidentiality and excellent

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• 1+ year experience in medical field and counseling of surgical patients preferred
• Experience in ophthalmology or optometry preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Detail oriented, reliable and able to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
• Flexible schedule Monday–Friday

Responsibilities

• Counsels patients for surgery by providing clear, concise details about what to expect
• Reviews all surgery paperwork with patients; consent for procedures
• Schedules all pertinent appointments, pre-operative and post-operative, including return with co-managing doctor
• Fills surgeon’s schedules to capacity and coordinates to fill the day
• Follows up on canceled procedures and no-shows for rescheduled cases
• Ensures patient out-of-pocket amounts (copays, coinsurance, deductible, lenses) are collected prior to surgery
• Prepares surgical charts and labels documents with surgical paperwork
• Helps maintain referring provider relationships
• Helps create a quality patient experience
• Maintains patient confidentiality at all times
