Job summary

The Bowery Residents' Committee, Inc. (BRC) in New York, NY, is seeking a Community Technician for Vanderbilt to join a 24/7 program. This full-time role offers 37.5 hours per week with mandatory overtime and a Tue-Sat 3pm-11:30pm shift.

You will support individuals experiencing homelessness, perform safety rounds, respond to crises, and document all interactions. Training is provided for CPR/First Aid, Narcan, and fire safety.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Willingness to obtain required certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
  • Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
  • Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
  • Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
  • Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan - training provided).
  • Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes).
  • Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance.
  • Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
