Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee, Inc. in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a Community Technician for the Tillary Street location. This full-time role (37.5 hours/week) involves maintaining a safe residential environment, engaging residents with empathy, and responding to crises during evening to overnight shifts.

No prior shelter experience required; training provided for CPR/First Aid, Narcan, and fire safety. The position offers benefits, overtime, and a clear path to advancement within a mission-driven

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
• Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
• Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
• Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided).
• Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes).
• Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance.
• Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
