Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee in New York is seeking a Community Technician to provide frontline support for individuals experiencing homelessness. You will maintain a safe residential environment, monitor rounds, engage residents with empathy, and respond to crises.

No prior shelter experience required; on-the-job training and certifications are offered. This full-time role offers overtime and opportunities to advance into case management and leadership within a mission-driven team.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Willingness to obtain required certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
  • Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
  • Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
  • Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
  • Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided).
  • Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes).
  • Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance.
  • Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
