Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking an Access Services Representative 1 to accurately collect demographics and insurance information, enabling patient registration, insurance verification, and accurate billing.

The role requires effective communication, empathy, and teamwork across departments. Shifts include Monday–Thursday 3:00 PM–11:30 PM and Friday 3:00 PM–7:30 PM, with a focus on patient-centered service.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required.
• Less than 1 year of experience preferred.
• Strong listening and communication skills.
• Professional telephone etiquette.

Responsibilities

• Conducts and documents patient interviews to obtain demographic and financial data for registration, insurance verification, precertification and billing.
• Registers patients at multiple locations and works in different department areas; identifies process improvement opportunities.
• Interacts with other areas and departments to inform about patient delays and schedule changes.
• Verifies patient eligibility for insurance coverage and benefit levels; collects patient dues and establishes liability.
• May be responsible for cashiering duties following established policies.
• Assists patients to nursing units with directions and mobility assistance when applicable.
• Adheres to compliance with cash policy, government payor, and patient safety requirements.
• Escalates potential service issues to management when necessary.
